Hell's Pizza, located in the Kitai Gorod, right in the center of Moscow, Russia, has recently opened and I am writing this post right from the joint. Actually, this is the first time I have written a post directly from the establishment. I usually wait to get home. Anyway, I came to this place on a recommendation from a friend.
I have to say that it's not exactly what I expected and, of course, I am going to have some recommendations for the establishment before this post is complete but, let's not jump off onto a bad foot so soon. This place has many good things going for it. For one, it's smack in the middle of a big party area and a high traffic zone. Just a short 3 minute walk from metro Kitai-Gorod and around the corner from many nightclubs, this place won't have a problem finding late-night groups wanting to fill their belly before or after going out!
Unfortunately, my main goal was to try the pizza, I will be going back to try some of their other small finger foods. I really should have tried their mozzarella sticks but seeing as how we here in Russia are on rations, or as most call it, SANCTIONS, I think I'll stick to my American mozzarella sticks, made from real Italian mozzarella.
The inside is quite cool - having a mainly black/white traditional pizzeria look with some flare spicing up the almost monochromatic interior. Love the skateboards that line the walls, including the BIGGIE Smalls deck on the wall in the back. The place also does a nice job of mixing regular 2-tops (a square table with two seats) and some bench/couch style seating for semi-larger groups wanting to come and chill.
So now for some recommendations: The pizza dough needs to be a bit more authentic. It lacks salt, and I'm not quite sure if they are using a quality flour. It may be a point to bring up in the future. Moving on, the dough, especially the pizzas I ate this evening were not cooked all the way through. I believe they are using an oven with top only heat and that's a big faux-pax. The bottom of the pizza slice was gooey and well, we know what that leads to...well, we won't go there. The lemonade I had (Depeche Mode) was quite good. I have no idea what was in it but you gotta try it.
